President Joe Biden has been facing criticism from angry citizens who have voiced anger over the president’s decision to revoke the Keystone XL Pipeline permit.
Following his executive order to scrap the controversial project, Biden has been getting mixed reactions whereas supporters praised him for taking a step to protect the environment while critics suggested plenty of people will lose jobs because of his actions.
As Laurie Cox, a hotel owner from South Dakota, told the Washington Examiner, she was left devastated after the project’s cancelation because pipeline workers in the area have become a part of her business and her family.
“I tried to choke back my tears because they were still packing up, and their families still had to be told, and the last thing they needed was an innkeeper sitting here crying on them,” she recalled the time she had learned about the executive action.
According to Cox, her family had just taken over the two-story hotel back in September, whereas they thought that the workers would help support their business throughout this year.
“I had a real gut-sinking feeling and was watching little snips of the news and Facebook to see what was going to happen after the inauguration,” Cox said in an interview with the Washington Examiner. “It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in shock for three days.”
Meanwhile, a mechanic from The Mount Rushmore State told the publication that lawmakers should come to South Dakota to witness the damage they have done first-hand.
“It’s all bulls*** in Washington. They are playing with our lives,” Gaylord Lincoln said.
Another disappointed resident who owns a truck shop store revealed how her business has been facing difficulties due to opposing administrations.
As Trudy Flesner claimed, she has started her business over ten years ago. After Obama halted the pipeline works, however, her business started collapsing.
Following Trump’s election and the revival of the project, Flesner’s business once again bloomed.Four years later, it is once again facing an uncertain future after the executive order to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline was signed.
“Anything Trump has done, [President Biden] wants to undo. They are totally turning the tables on us,” Flesner said.
“I don’t want us to be like the North and the South.
“You’re a Republican, and you’re a Democrat, so we’re going to war against you. I don’t want that. The way it is now, if you’re a Republican, they’re going to cut your head off.”
