The beloved school bus driver passed away on August 13 at the age of 76. He had been working as a bus driver for more than 50 years.

Two weeks before he died, Mr. Wright had been honored at a board meeting of Wilson County Schools, which decided to name the transportation department in his name in recognition of his huge contribution to community life.

It was in November 2018 when the ‘overall amazing man’ and ‘legendary bus driver’ retired after working behind the wheel for over 50 years.

In 2017, he was named State Bus Driver of the year and was inducted into the Tennessee School Bus Driver Hall of Fame.

When he passed away, his son Calvin and grandchildren knew the best way to send him off. They contacted the Nashville Casket Sales for a custom-wrapped coffin.

“It was only fitting,” Calvin said to CNN. “Besides the grandkids, that’s something he loved more than anything, being behind the wheel of that bus.”

“Great Guy you are! You have helped so many people throughout the years with Lebanon Police Dept, Wilson Co Sheriff Dept and Middle TN Electric and of course all the years watching out for the young children from Lebanon that you took such pride in every morning and every afternoon these are some of the great things that you accomplished,” one person said.
