A man from South London, Jon Trenchard, from Forest Hill, constructed such an epic model that one can only dream.
He, from his childhood, was attracted to historic castles. And his effort to build such a model at the age of 12 shows his enthusiasm and skills. Jon continued showcasing his efforts, and even at the age of 42, he is producing epic pieces.
The earliest model was the combined effort of Jon and his dad when they built one of the rooms in the castle. So far, Jon has built 8 rooms in that castle and he has named it “Hordle Castle”.
This tiny castle also has a lavish attic room, that was inspired by the nursery at “Kingston Lacy” in Dorset. Surprisingly, a Dutch cabinet has been built in it which is on a tiny 1:44 scale.
Jon is fully determined to build an entire castle is the style of National Trust Property. The inside of the castle has eight rooms, has a stunning Turkish bathroom, a chapel, a hall, entrance, a wine cellar, an attic room, a staircase, and an escape tunnel.
All this effort is simply mindblowing, as each and every single item the castle is actually an item from historic properties. Jon has certainly worked for thousands of hours to craft such pieces.
Jon says, “I have to build at least a dozen more rooms to complete and I even want to install miniature visitor signs, ropes, and a café”.
He also explained that this whole process needs full attention and is time taking, as the attic room took over a year to complete. Jon has spent his childhood visiting historical buildings, and that might be the reason behind this intensive effort. As a child, Jon always dreamed about owning a castle.
Jon’s dreams and ideas are limitless, as he also plans to write a book. You would be amazed to know that all epic pieces made by him are hand made.
Moreover, the material used is simply “recycled material”, such as egg boxed and old cereal packets among others. It was hard for Jon to decide which part of the castle is his favorite one, as each part is the source of satisfaction and pleasure for him.
Jon estimates that if he ever finishes Hordle it will span four feet square and three feet high. However, it may take the whole of his life to complete what he has planned. Jon has decided to donate his hand made a castle to the National Trust.
