Britney Spears has checked herself into a mental health facility in order to help her cope with her father’s ongoing health problems.
According to TMZ, Jamie Spears has had two major surgeries to fix problems with his intestines and colon, but complications from those surgeries arose and don’t seem to be abating. Britney has since put her Vegas residency on hold, and last week, checked into the facility. She’s expected to stay there for 30 days.
She wrote on Instagram, along with a picture that read, “We all need to take a little ‘me time.’’
“Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit.”
Britney has suffered from mental health issues before and in 2007, fans were fearing for the singer after a similar meltdown to that of 2007, when she shaved her head and spent time in and out of a Malibu rehab center.
A source told PEOPLE magazine that the singer checked into a facility for ‘’all-encompassing wellness treatment’ so she could ‘focus on herself.’’
‘’Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well.’’
‘’They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her – she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself,’’ the source said.
Another source told US Magazine: ‘’Britney was distraught when her dad first got sick,’’ the insider explains.
‘’Then there was a period where she was handling it better and feeling more positive because Jamie seemed to be improving, but then his condition worsened and she couldn’t emotionally handle the thought of potentially losing him.’’
‘’It was her breaking point.’’
Last year in October, Britney was last pictured with her father on an outing in Los Angeles.
She said in a statement January 4 after her father suffered the ruptured colon: ‘I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family.
‘’We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.’’
