As many as fifty dogs and cats were abandoned in Cyprus by their owners after the coronavirus outbreak.
British Airways, however, decided to bring them back to the U.K. and sent a specially trained crew for the same.
This mission was carried out to bring more than 4 dozens of pets back to the British Isles to help them enjoy new lives. As per the reports, 14 cats and 36 dogs had been abandoned.
They were either left on streets or with pounds during the coronavirus pandemic.
For helping these abandoned animals, several charities came together to rescue these pets and bring them back to the U.K.
After the flight landed, the passengers were transferred to Gatwick’s airport’s Animal Reception Center. These pooches met their new owners there.
Along with the animals, the flight was delivering numerous medical supplies as well as essentials.
Paul Walker-Northwood, who works as British Airways Captain, was amongst the flight crew. He noted that he was glad as he could help give these abandoned animals another chance.
He said that during these challenging times, British Airways teams were working throughout the day to help bring people home and fly necessary supplies to the places.
He added that along with the supplies, the flight also had numerous four-legged babies waiting to get adopted by their new families.
Paul also said that animal welfare to them was really important and they also knew how important it was for their customers.
This comes after China announced new guidelines according to which, dogs must be considered as pets instead of livestock. This is important news for pet lovers because, in China, millions of dogs are slaughtered every year for meat.
