Dog Who Was Dubbed The Ugliest Dog Crosses The Rainbow Bridge

A dog who was dubbed Britain’s ‘ugliest dog’ has passed away at the age of 16 years.

Chase looked different than other dogs due to his birth defects. He had a ‘crablike walk’, no teeth, and a milky-blue colored eye which turned so after a cataract.

The Chinese-crested mix also had no fur except for some long hair on his head.

Owing to his appearance, the unfortunate dog was the second runner-up in 2017 California’s World’s Ugliest Dog Competition.

Chase’s owner Storm Shayler says the dog, who was suffering from pancreatitis, died peacefully at home.

“He was beautiful inside. Chase was a one-of-a-kind dog,” Storm, from Neath in South Wales, told WalesOnline in a recent interview.

“He had so much personality and I took him everywhere with me. Nothing at all ever fazed him – he loved people and people loved him.”

The owner says she was ‘gob-smacked’ when Chase won a three feet trophy at the World’s Ugliest Dog competition, adding she had never thought he would do so well.

“He lapped up all the attention on the day like a little star and loved showing himself off,” Storm remembered. “He might not have won first prize, but he was always a winner in my eyes.

“He just loved his life so much. He was an absolute joy for the eight years I had him. I was with him when he died – I just cuddled him and he slipped away peacefully.

“He had an amazing life but I am going to miss him beyond words.”

Chase was diagnosed with pancreatitis shortly before his death.

The disease was revealed when Storm took the dog to a vet after he started refusing to eat or drink and his weight fell drastically.

Storm said: “Even though Chase was poorly he never looked like he was giving up. The day before he died I took him for a walk up a mountain.

“But then he just took a turn for the worse. I am just so glad he is not suffering anymore.

“I will miss him so much – he was a small dog with the biggest personality. No one will ever replace Chase; he really was one of a kind.”
