Smuggling drugs is a crime no government around the world will let go off.
Drug abuse is one thing we humans are struggling to get out of for the longest time.
A British couple can be sentenced to death as they have been caught smuggling heroin out of Pakistan worth £2m.
20 years old Ikra Hussain, and her 26 years old husband Mohammed Tahir Ayaz, were caught by the Pakistan authorities at Sialkot international airport.
The couple who had their flight from Pakistan to Dubai and from Dubai to the UK was caught in the first half of their trip as the airport authorities doubted something suspicious about them.
The authorities said that they have found almost 25 kgs of heroin termed as the ‘highest quality.’ The authorities reported that the heroine was divided into multiple packets and was hidden inside the woman’s attire.
The drug was then collected and emptied in blue colored plastic bags.
The couple accepted to the authorities that they were taking the drugs to Britain before the handing over the drugs to the narcotics department of Pakistan.
The couple will face life imprisonment or the death penalty for the same if they are found guilty of smuggling and it looks like the chances are very high.
Foreign Office representative said that they are strictly looking in the matter following the arrest of the British couple.
Since 2001, Pakistan has been following no tolerance policy towards the growth of the poppy plant, the plant heroine grows on. As a result of the same, the country has been very successful in eliminating the cultivation as well as the usage of the drug.
The authorities have been finding a large amount of drugs since 2016 and have been working on the ways to eliminate the practice but it is difficult because of the Afghanistan border as Afghanistan is the largest producer of illicit opium in the world.
