A woman who was too heavy to be carried through the threshold of her home when she got married finally made her dream come true after almost two decades of marriage.
UK-based Steph Gill was 22 years old when she tied the knot with John, now her husband-of-18-years, in a beautiful wedding ceremony.
One thing, however, had bothered the bride for several years. Due to her weight, she wasn’t able to experience being carried over the doorstep of her home by her husband.
“It certainly was in my mind. But I knew there was just no way he could carry me at my previous weight,” she expressed.
More than a decade into the marriage, Steph decided it was the time for a big change after her weight spiraled to over 300 pounds.
Following a gastric bypass, the dedicated woman picked up exercising and managed to lose more than half of her total weight.
Not only did she manage to drop off the extra weight but she was finally also able to recreate her wedding day and have her husband carry her into their house after realizing he could now pick her up with ease.
“I can’t remember why he lifted me up, but I just, ‘oh my God, you can pick me up.’ That’s how the idea came about,” Steph said.
“John knew I’d always wanted to be carried over the threshold so he agreed to do it. But he didn’t realize I was going to wear my wedding dress until the last minute.”
While 18 years might seem like a long time for dreams to come true, Steph doesn’t have any regrets about making major changes in her lifestyle that helped her lose weight.
“John was proud that he could do it and he always says how proud he is of me for all the weight I’ve lost,” she added.
