That’s why it’s important to take advantage of opportunities to recapture the special bond between a parent and one’s child should the chance arise. And for bride Mikayla Ellison Phillips and her dad Nathan Ellison, that chance came during the traditional father-daughter dance at the reception that turned out to be anything but traditional.

The father-daughter dance at the reception is symbolic in that it represents the sendoff from her family into a new chapter of her life with the man she chose to be her partner in life. Mikayla and her dad started off as one would expect but after a couple of twirls, the music suddenly changed and the duo began dancing to the beats of the tunes with moves that drew raucous applause and cheers from the guests.

Both father and daughter only had a week to practice their choreography. Fortunately, Mikayla is a professional dancer who simplified the learning process. Incidentally, Mikayla met her husband Cody when they became dance partners in Brigham Young University’s International Folk Dance Ensemble.
