A Twitter user @0lspicykeychain, a member of a “wedding shaming” group on Facebook, a place on the internet where people go to shame weddings, shared her special day horror story which instantly went viral and made Chrissy Teigen comment on it.
The woman shared that she and her partner broke up due to “recent and irreparable problems.” She then explained how the two met at age 14, fell in love, got engaged at 18 (with a $5,000 ring), and had a child together in their early 20s.
The couple saved up about $15,000 for their dream wedding but soon they discovered that their actual dream wedding would cost about $60,000. So, they asked each wedding guest to contribute $1,500 to their wedding.
“All we asked was for a little help from our friends and family to make it happen,” she wrote.
Only eight people RSVP’d and sent the check; her maid of honour backed out as well. The couple set up a GoFundMe page that could collect only $250.
