A mother has been arrested and charged with felony attempted capital murder after it was revealed she repeatedly punched her 4-month-old baby girl and attempted to suffocate her by sitting on her face.
20-year-old Meredith Nicole Deen from Texas was apprehended after her live-in boyfriend reported the abuse which occurred at the woman’s apartment in Houston.
As the boyfriend claimed, he witnessed the mother punch her baby girl and heard her say she wanted to throw the 4-month-old into the wall.
In addition, the young mother allegedly yelled “Why don’t you die? Why are you still alive?” as she sat on the infant’s face in an attempt to smother her.
According to the reports, the boyfriend acted after seeing just how serious the situation was and managed to pull Meredith off the baby girl. Fortunately, the child survived the attempted murder.
On the following day, the staff of a daycare noticed the infant was shaking when Deen and her boyfriend dropped her off. Under pressure, the boyfriend admitted his girlfriend and the mother of the child tried to kill the infant by sitting on her.
The daycare immediately alerted the Harris County’s Sheriff’s Office who arrested the woman and took the four-month-old to hospital for a check-up.
Meanwhile, the young mother told the officers she had gotten furious and released her anger on her baby after her mother refused to help her care for the infant.
Eventually, the mother pleaded guilty to attempted murder and admitted this wasn’t her first time trying to suffocate the young girl. As Deen claimed, she had tried to suffocate her child by holding a pillow over her face in a preceding incident.
Deen is currently awaiting trial and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at a Houston hospital. She has expressed regret for the attempted murder of her daughter.
