Two out of them tested positive for COVID-19, including the fourteen-year-old who died, as well as 4 of them were from houses with at least one family member confirmed or suspected to have had coronavirus.

The hospitals in the U.K. have been alerted to the new phenomenon associated with coronavirus. Dr. Sara Hanna, the children’s hospital director, who described the outbreak’s timing as suspicious, noted that they probably witnessed the first case in middle of March.

She said that the hospital had a child admitted with a condition similar to Kawasaki or toxic shock syndrome.

She added that in the past 2 weeks, they have seen a cluster of ill kids where some appeared to be similar to Kawasaki. The kids have got red eyes, high persistent fever, rash, and swollen feet, and hands.

Doctors said that blood tests were testing negative for coronavirus in those kids but other indicators were strikingly similar to the ones seen in adults with coronavirus. Antibodies indicating recovery from coronavirus were later discovered in about 50% of the children.

Several kids were still recovering in the hospital while some of them had been discharged. However, similar cases have been reported at the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

According to Dr. Sara, it was crucial for kids to wash their hands frequently and she urged parents to seek medical help as soon as their child becomes ill.
