A 9-year-old boy from South Carolina has been given a new chance at life.
His mother, Yameika Stover, shared his amazing story with the world.
Cashlin was only two years old when he had a heart transplant due to his genetic disorder. Everything went well until he was 7.
The little boy was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia that affects heart transplant recipients. Unfortunately, his heart could not handle chemotherapy.
Despite his sickness and kidney failure, Cashlin kept on fighting.
It wasn’t until Dr. Javier Oesterheld at Levine Children’s Hospital tried a different approach that increased his chances of beating the disease.
Cashlin became the first patient at the hospital to receive a drug called brentuximab. Within only a few days, he showed signs of improvements.
“I think he’s a miracle,” Dr. Oesterheld expressed.
His mother, Stover, said: “He was the one that kept me going.” Whenever she watches him play baseball, she is always overcome with emotion.
Levine Children’s also wrote on Facebook: “Despite all he’s gone through, Cashlin shines bright like a [baseball] diamond.
“He’s had a heart transplant, cancer and kidney failure, but he’s now back to playing his favorite sport.”
The boy’s cardiologist, Dr. Gonzalo Wallis, said to Atrium Health: “Cashlin went through the worst of it — from diagnosis to complications — but he received all the care he needed in one place.
“You’d never know he went through heart disease, a transplant or cancer. Cashlin is a champion.”
One person commented: “Bless his heart! Truly happy for this sweet little guy.”
Another wrote: “God is good all the time!”
A third said: “You are amazing. Swing to fences little man.”
