Reports said that the 9-year-old was crossing a road when a tractor-trailer that was pulling three trailers ran over him.

A GoFundMe page for Alex reads: “Alex was life flighted to St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho where he underwent a six hour emergency surgery for several severe traumatic injuries, one in which included amputation of his left arm.”

His mother, Brianna Watson, said to KMTV that doctors predicted the boy would have to stay in the hospital for six months to one year.

After just three months, strong-willed Alex managed to come home!

“For us to be home within three and a half months, four months, is a miracle. Alex is a tough, tough cookie,” said Watson.

Speaking about his experience in the hospital, Alex said: “I had my tablet, it was still boring on my tablet. I wanted to go outside and everything. It wasn’t fun, but I had to do it.”

The young boy was so happy when he returned home. He told his mom that he didn’t want to depend on a wheelchair so after a few weeks, he was already up and walking outside. He even started mowing the lawn with just one arm.

“It was hard to start it, but I got a pair of pliers, clamped it on the — where you have to hold it — and pulled the string and it got started and I started mowing the lawn.”

Watson said the community helped, supported and loved Alex. “I never expected, in my wildest dreams, for everyone to come together. That was amazing.
