An amber alert has been issued for the 1-year-old boy who was snatched from his mother in broad daylight.
Police said Mateo Alejandro Montufar-Barrera was kidnapped while his mother was pushing him in a stroller. Two men abducted the child from his mother at gunpoint in Chamblee, Georgia.
Fortunately, the boy was found safe after an amber alert was issued.
According to police, the kidnappers had pulled up to the mother and son before one of them jumped out of their maroon 2003 Acura MDX and held a gun at the mother’s hip.
The kidnapper tried to take her baby but the woman grabbed his weapon and pointed it at him but it did not go off.
The mother pulled off one of the man’s shoes and tore off a piece of his shorts during their struggle.
The FBI shared photos of the shoes and clothing of the man, who was described as Hispanic in his mid-20s.
The second kidnapper later jumped out of the vehicle and grabbed the baby before they drove away towards the I-85.
FBO Atlanta wrote on Twitter: “Mother of 1-year-old Mateo Alejandro Montufar-Barrera put a fight and was able to grab a piece of suspect’s shorts and his shoe. If you recognize them call @ChambleePd 770-986-5005.”
Chamblee Police said Georgia State Patrol found the kidnapper’s car in Carroll County five hours later.
The 1-year-old boy was found and has been reunited with his mother. The kidnappers have been arrested and taken into custody.
