5-Year-Old Boy Walked In Police Station Offering Free Hugs To Officers Amid Tensions Within The Community


It was an ordinary day for the police officers stationed in Charlotte, North Carolina.

But when a 5-year-old boy named Jayden Hooker walked in, everything changed.

This was the time when the community and the police force could feel the tension rising between them.
There were many demonstrations, and protestors and officers would get hurt during such moments.

At home, Jayden would wake up from the noises and would be scared until his mom came and comforted him.point 84 | When he asked what was going on, his mother Deanna tried her best to explain the situation.point 159 | When he heard the story, Jayden wanted to do something for the officers.point 219 |

And she recorded every step of this surprise visit and posted about it on Facebook, which went viral.point 228 |

“He asked me if he could bring the police donuts and give them hugs for all they do,” wrote Jayden’s mother Deanna.

After preparing donuts, Jayden and Deanna walked into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. And as soon as the officers noticed Jayden, they immediately went over to hug him.

It was because of the sign that Jayden had made, which was tied around his neck. It read: “Free Hugs”.

Not surprisingly, everyone who saw Jayden was completely touched. In the midst of tough and busy day, this little boy came to brighten everyone’s mood.

“I’m so proud of my son,” said Deanna in her interview with the WPVI.

“I think it honestly shows you that a 5-year-old can teach us a lot about how we should treat each other during times like these,” added Deanna.

“It’s his mission to spread love and positivity. He’s a very cool kid.”

And when Jayden was interviewed by the WPVI, he said, “I’m happy the police officers didn’t get really hurt.point 108 | I want you to stay safe and I don’t want anybody to hurt you.point 162 |
