It’s the call that every student dreads. Being summoned for the principal’s office is never a good thing (or so we thought) but there are exceptions now and then, especially when one’s parents are so excited that they can’t wait for their kid to come home from school to tell the good news.

That’s pretty much what happened to a student named Rylee got called to the principal’s office. Not knowing what was up, he was trying to think of all the reasons he was in trouble but couldn’t think of any.

To his surprise, it was his parents, Ryan and Diane Potter, who opened the door.

Still unsure if he was in trouble or not, he started telling them how his day at school has been going so far as he tentatively entered the office. Unable to fathom why his parents were there, he asked the obvious question, “Where are we going?”

Based on the look on his face, Rylee was probably expecting to be told that he was in trouble for something.

Instead, his parents surprised him with a question.

His dad asked, “What do you think about having some brothers and sisters?”

“That would be great,” answered an obviously confused Rylee.

And that’s when his mom broke the big news to him, “Guess what … you’re going to be a big brother!”

The stunned look on his face was priceless.

It turns out that Rylee’s parents had been hard at work trying to adopt the children and finally got the go signal to bring the foster children to their new home.

Rylee will now become a big brother to five boys and one girl.

After the initial laugh of joy, tears started forming in Rylee’s eyes at the news. Even as he kept smiling, he had to blink furiously several times to fight the tears forming.

He shouted in excitement, “Now I won’t have to be lonely again,” especially as he realized that he now had siblings to play and share exciting stories with. “I gotta go tell my classmates.”

Before he left the room, his mom told him that he needed to thank Jesus.

“Thanks, Jesus! This is the best day of my life!” Rylee exclaimed.

From worry that he was in trouble, it turned out to be the best news that he could hope for. Of course, the siblings weren’t going to arrive that or even the day after (more likely a few months from then) but it was a sure thing that they were coming.
