A young boy passed away a week after dogs tore off his genitals while his family were celebrating his second birthday.
Yegor, only two years old, died after desperately fighting for his life in a hospital in Ukraine. His heart stopped beating one day after medics said there was a slight improvement in his condition.
The toddler had been on kidney dialysis and a ventilator since the horrific incident, which occurred in Selydove on September 18.
According to reports, Yegor walked outside while his parents were talking to their guests.
The toddler was walking around the courtyard when two German shepherds managed to escape from their enclosure and attacked him.
As soon as the parents noticed their boy’s absence, they went out to look for him.
“The boy was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood,” said charity volunteer Aleksandra Timoschchenkova. “The dogs were still tearing him apart.”
Reports said that the guard dogs broke out of their cage as Yegor’s father did not close the door properly.
Local media reported that the dogs ripped off the child’s anus, genitals, and tore his femoral artery on his left leg.
Yegor was rushed to a hospital in the city of Dnipro by a military helicopter.
It took doctors five hours to restore his intestines, bladder and blood vessels, and remove tissues ‘that had been chewed by the dogs.’
The head of the hospital, Natalia Dementyeva, said: “The boy suffered extremely severe injuries known as dirty wounds.”
Authorities launched a criminal cause for failure to filfill parental duties against the child’s parents. If found guilty, they face up to three years in jail.
