A young boy from Claremont, California has passed away after isolating himself in his bedroom with symptoms of coronavirus.
13-year-old Maxx Cheng started experiencing nausea, vomiting, and chest pains on July 4. He was taken to a hospital by his mother to test him for Covid-19 but the result came back negative.
But Maxx, who decided to self-isolate in his bedroom while suffering coronavirus symptoms, was found lifeless days after his condition improved.
His sister, Charlotte Cheng, said: “His symptoms matched, but then the test came out negative. So we were a little bit confused.”
In an interview with CBS Local, Cheng shared: “We went to go check up on him, like we normally do. He wasn’t answering. We found him passed out in the room. There was almost no cough.”
She added: “The fever had gone down three days before he passed.”
A family friend said that the 13-year-old boy, who was a member of a swimming team, had been healthy and fit before he died.
“Somebody who is athletic, somebody who is on the swimming team who is so energetic and active dies from it, it changes the conversation,” the friend said.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses managed to raise over $50,000.
“Maxx Cheng was one of Claremont’s finest young men who was recently lost during this pandemic,” the page reads.
“Maxx was athletic, intelligent, funny, and mature and was voted Class President of Chaparral Elementary before heading off to El Roble. He played the viola with El Roble’s orchestra, was part of El Roble’s Speech and Debate team and competed in swimming.
“Max leaves behind an amazing twin brother named Leo who is equally impressive and our hearts are with Leo at this time. He also has a beautiful sister Charlotte, 21 years of age.”
