5-Year-Old Boy Passed Away After A Granite Tabletop Fell On His Head At Wedding Reception


A young boy has passed away after a granite tabletop fell on his head at a wedding reception in Illinois, police reported.

Emergency services were called to The Drake Hotel and first responders performed CPR on 5-year-old Luca Berlingerio, who was rushed to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead from a severe head injury.

According to investigators, the young boy was at the wedding reception with his parents when he climbed onto a table standing behind a sofa, WGN reported. As other children began to leave, the young boy started sliding off it.

Luca grabbed the edge of the table as he slid backward but as soon as he descended, it toppled over and hit him on the head.

He was found unresponsive by his family who raised the alarm and contacted paramedics.

Luca is survived by his parents, Anna Berlingerio and Simone, and his brother, Rocco. An obituary for him stated that he ‘passed away suddenly.’

The Drake Hotel told Daily Mail in a statement: “Our team is heartbroken about this terrible accident. We wish to share our condolences with the family and friends affected. To respect their privacy, we aren’t able to share the specifics of the incident.”

A family friend launched a GoFundMe page for the family.

Yesenia Cortez wrote: “No words can explain what it feels to loose a child. My condolences to the Berlingerio Family. We are asking all our fellow UPS brothers and friends to assist Simone and his family during this tragedy. We know times are hard but anything will help.”
