Young Boy Whose Cat Passed Away Was So Thrilled When A New Cat Showed Up At Their Door

Jonathan and his feline Charlie were best friends since he was born.

They ate together, bathed together, and even took naps together. The two were inseparable as the loving cat knew it was his job to protect the little boy.

Valerie, Jonathan’s mother, said to The Dodo: “Jonathan was the first baby Charlie had ever been around. He took his role as baby protector very seriously.”

When 15-year-old Charlie passed away, his family was heartbroken, especially 6-year-old Jonathan. He misses his companion so much.

“I tell him, ‘When it’s time for us to add another cat to the family, Charlie will send us one,’” Valerie shared.

But one day, they were at home when an adorable orange cat suddenly showed up at their door. Valerie could tell that the feline was very friendly as he settled into her lap right away. The two stayed that way for an hour until a vehicle scared the fluffy feline away.

Two days later, the friendly cat came back and Valerie made sure that her son was there to meet him.

“The first day my youngest met this fluffy cat, they were both absolutely in love with each other,” Valerie expressed.

“The fluffy visitor let my youngest shower him with hugs and kisses right away. My son was obviously extremely excited, as we all were.”

Valerie thought the cat probably belonged to someone so she purchased a collar that said ‘Please call if you own cat’ with her phone number included and on one side it said ‘I love your cat.’

After receiving a few visits from the fluffy cat, they received a call from its owner. “She is a 69-year-old neighbor on the next road over and she was so happy to know that we had been loving on Garfield,” Valerie said.

“He showed up as a stray over a decade ago and adopted her. He never lost his stray habits, so he would rather be outside most of the day.”

Garfield likes to go to people who need him the most – like a young boy whose cat passed away and needs a friend to play with.

The cat’s mom said she’d be delighted to ‘share custody’ and Jonathan and Valerie are over the moon that Garfield’s visits won’t stop.

“We are definitely a second family now,” Valerie expressed.
