A young boy who was sent by a judge to live with his father who physically and sexually abused him opened up about his horrifying childhood experiences.
When he told his mother about the abuse, she immediately complained to a judge. However, the boy was ordered to stay with his abusive father.
The terrified 6-year-old boy lived with his father for seven years. Now 19, he has spoken out about the traumatic childhood he endured.
“There were many times when he was abusing me physically and sexually of course. That was my very, very earliest memories,” James told the ABC.
“I walked out of the bathroom and he slammed my head into the corner of a wall for absolutely no reason. There was no reason behind it, he just wanted to let his anger out on me.”
James said he never wanted to live with his father. He constantly counted down the hours at his mom’s house until he would return within his father’s reach.
When he was 12, he ran away from home multiple times and went to the police station with scratches and bruises. He asked the police to let him live with his mother but the court’s ruling was followed.
The police eventually took out a violence order against the father.
James said it was the most difficult time as he didn’t have any contact with his mother.
Investigations found that there were more alleged child sexual assault against the father from his previous partners.
James told his story as the Australian Law Reform Commission finished a review of the family court system. It was found that the system posed an “unacceptable risk to children” and that kids were “falling into harm” because of it.
