Detectives believe the young boy was left unattended in the vehicle for more than two hours. The temperature that day reached up to 93F.

Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold said: “Unfortunately, Daylin did not survive the heatstroke.”

The child’s father, 23-year-old Dylan Levesque, has been charged with neglect and felony aggravated child abuse. His bond has been set at 50,000.

Levesque has yet to enter a plea but will be ordered to do so once he appears in court.

Family friend and neighbor James Fuller said to the Daily News that the father had mental problems. “(Levesque) didn’t even remember picking him up,” said Fuller. “That’s the kind of state of mind he was in.”

According to paper reports, police received a call from Levesque complaining that he found red spots from a laser pointer three days before the child’s death and that the dogs were barking.
