A young boy was finally reunited with his loving grandmother after walking 1,700 miles, sleeping under the stars, and fighting off wild animals, to see her.
Romeo Cox finally hugged his 77-year-old grandmother, Rosemary, after embarking on a 93-day journey with his father from Sicily to London.
Romeo and his dad, Phil, 46, walked through Italy, Switzerland, and France to see his grandmother as they did not see each other for over a year.
Upon arriving in London, the two had to be quarantined for two weeks before they were able to see Rosemary in Oxfordshire.
A heartwarming video shows Romeo running to his grandmother’s house and the two shared a warm embrace.
“I’m really proud of you. It’s fantastic what you’ve done it really is. Well done! I’m going to give you a special squeeze, well done,” Rosemary expressed.
The young boy thanked his grandma for waiting for them, and she told him: “Ah the waiting bit was tough. It was hard.”
Romeo described the moment he was finally able to see and hug his grandma.
“Getting closer to Granny’s house, I just started running and left my dad behind. We had the best hug ever – really the best.”
He continued: “Granny then made eggs and toast and we talked and talked. I have really missed her, I couldn’t sleep much the night before.
“Our journey has been so far and so many people have helped my dad and I.”
Rosemary said she was overwhelmed by her grandson’s amazing journey. “I didn’t believe my grandson’s incredible journey at first. But seeing Romeo after all this time, after following his journey just feels so special. I gave him the biggest hug ever.”
She added: “Children can inspire us and lift us all up. On behalf of all the grannies in all the world, I want to thank Romeo – as well and hug him and kiss him lots.”
