10-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Discovers A Nest Of 11 Dinosaur Eggs While Playing Outdoors

A 10-year-old boy has accidentally found a nest of eleven dinosaur eggs while playing in a Chinese city.

According to experts, the eggs date back some more than 60 million years to the late Cretaceous period before the giant creatures were wiped out.

The schoolboy said he first saw a ‘strange stone’ in the soil. He then realized that it could be a dinosaur egg after looking at the ‘stone’ closely.

Experts then confirmed his speculation and discovered more eggs nearby.

The young boy, named Zhang Yangzhe, found the nest while playing in the city of Heyuan, Guangdong Province.

Yangze was accompanied by his mother during that time. He first thought that the rock had some circles on the surface.

“Then I called my mother over, [and we] thought the shell looked like that of a dinosaur egg,” he said to a reporter from Heyuan Radio and Television Station.

The mother, Li Xiaofang, said her son knew the shell pattern of dinosaur eggs as he visited a local museum to learn about the ancient beasts.

She contacted the police and stayed at the site with her child until officers arrived.

Experts from Heyuan Dinosaur Museum confirmed that the stone was indeed a fossilized dinosaur egg. They also found more dinosaur eggs from the same nest.

Each egg measures about 3.5 inches (9cm) in length.

Former director of Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, Huang Dong, said to Beijing News that the fossils came from the late Cretaceous period.

The eggs were taken to Heyuan Dinosaur Museum for further studies.

The Heyuan city is known as China’s ‘home of dinosaurs.’ In 2015, 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs were found by workmen.

Since 1996, over 17,000 eggs have been dug out in the city.
