The case includes a 54-year-old man who was charged for sodomizing his 6-year-old son with a stick, which caused the child’s death.
This case is reopened.
Mauricio Alejandro Torres was given a death sentence in 2016 in Arkansas, but the conviction that he received was overturned last year.
This is due to the state laws, which say that capital murder offenses that carry the death penalty, have to be carried out at the state, where the prosecution was brought.
When the abuse took place, Mauricio was living in Missouri with his family, but now the prosecutors are pulling out Mauricio’s history of abuse and building a case through it.
The prosecutors believe that with the help of this case, they will be able to convict Mauricio Alejandro Torres within the state of Arkansas for the murder charge.
Maurice Isaiah Torres, who was just 6-years-old, had to face abuse because he ate a cake, without his father’s permission during a family camping trip in 2015.
Mauricio said that he abused the boy to teach him a lesson for his disobedience. Moreover, instead of helping her son from the abuse, the mother joined in and physically abused the child as well.
The boy’s mother, Cathy, received a life sentence during the trial back in 2017 and is currently serving jail time at Benton County Jail.
Due to the attack made by Mauricio on his son, it gave birth to a wound that suppurated and resulted in a bacterial infection. 6-year-old Maurice suffered septic shock due to the wound and died the following day.
The reports also provided information that Maurice was forced to do exercises by his mother after his father assaulted him.
The re-trial took place at the Benton County jail itself, and the first trial was heard on Thursday. During the trial, some disturbing yet heart-wrenching information was also revealed by the Benton County Jail prosecutor that provided more light on the incident.
