12-Year-Old Boy Died After Trying To Save His Younger Sister From Drowning


A 12-year-old boy has tragically passed away after attempting to rescue his younger sister from drowning in the world’s largest freshwater lake.

The tragic incident occurred at Big Traverse Beach at Lake Superior in Michigan where a 12-year-old unnamed boy rushed into the water, alongside two other people, after seeing his 8-year-old sister getting swept away by the current according to the Houghton Daily Mining Gazette.

After attempting to reach the young girl, all three rescuers, including the brother, got pulled deeper into the water by the current.

The four victims have eventually been rescued by quick-thinking beachgoers who threw inflatable tubes into the lake and pulled them to the shore.

Meanwhile, at around 2:33 in the afternoon, the onlookers alerted the emergency services and reported four people drowning in the lake.

According to the local reports, the first responders attempted to resuscitate the 12-year-old after arriving at the scene.

As the sheriff’s office confirmed, the boy was then rushed to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. With his condition failing to improve, he was then taken to a local airport from where he was supposed to be airlifted to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Unfortunately, the little hero succumbed to his injuries and died on the way to the airport.

While the authorities didn’t release the name of the 12-year-old, it has been confirmed that the boy lived in Commerce Township, Michigan.
