As Assistant Police Chief Albert Martinez has confirmed since the discovery, the young child died from a wound caused by an “edged weapon.”

Following just hours after Cash was found lying lifeless on the street, the authorities arrested 18-year-old Darriynn Brown who has since been charged with kidnapping and theft. During his arrest, the teen was already wearing an ankle monitor which he got earlier this year after being charged with evading arrest.

According to the reports, a woman claiming to be the mother of the 4-year-old spoke to WFAA to claim that Brown had forced his way into her house before kidnapping her son while he was sleeping.

As of this writing, the motives remain unclear, whereas the woman insisted that her family doesn’t know Brown and that she has no idea what caused the teenager to target her home.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that the media misidentified Monica Sherrod as Cash’s biological mom.

“Cash was left in the care of Ms. Sherrod by his father unbeknownst to his biological mother, Ms. Melinda Seagroves,” the authorities say.

“According to Ms. Sherrod, she has not been able to contact the father since his departure from her residence in March 2021.”

The police also confirmed that Seagroves, the mom of Cash and another young boy, “has been conducting an extensive search for her sons for an extended amount of time.”

Since the tragic incident, Cash’s twin brother has reportedly been reunited with his biological mother.
