Dan Bezzant got a heartbreaking news from his son’s school. His 7-year-old son was insulted by the school bullies’ who found him taking breakfast. They called him many names that show his inferiority among them. Some said he was a monster while others told him straight that he was the ugliest creature ever seen.
Jackson sat there helplessly while the bullies’ went on with their insult. He was never at peace when in school. Occasionally, Jackson would break into tears. He was being tormented by who he was as his fellow children put it. Fortunately for him, a teacher stepped in to chase away the bullies’ before it went further.
Jackson’s dad also broke to tears when he received the story that people teased his son about how he looked. He was heartbroken that people could not understand that it wasn’t Jackson’s wish to be who he was. He never chose to have the shape that his fellow found so funny.
He was born with a medical condition called Treacher Collins Syndrome which hinders proper development of facial bone and skull at large. Jackson, to be who he is, has gone through series of surgery in an attempt to help build his eye socket. He has been affected in some ways including nearly becoming deaf. Presently, he relies on the ear kits to aid his hearing ability.
The most hurting part of is that his colleagues never seem to understand him. They focus so much on the fact that he looks different from them. His face has developed unusually and those who are around him, being aware of it, use it as an abuse tool to intimidate him.
Jackson’s nightmare wasn’t at school only. From wherever he walks, he could easily draw the attention of people who were also quick to judge him as being ugly. His father, Dan, remember an instance when a woman walked passed them and uttered the following words: “Did you recognize that boy’s face?” All those added together with the unfair treatment his son was going through, were enough to make him shed tears.
Jackson is still scheduled for other more series of surgery in his life. Dan knows that her son will still endure bullying for a long time and if that continues, then his son might do something harmful to himself. He is not far from committing suicide and Dan is aware of it. He has to do something to help save the life of his son. Whatever it is to be done, must be executed as fast as humanly possible.
Following Jackson’s bullying at school that day, Dan decided to let everyone know what his son was going through in his life. He saw it wise to educate everyone about it so that they may understand Jackson and stop making fun of him now and then. To reach a larger audience at once, Dan resorted to Facebook.
He wrote a touching post explaining his son’s condition. The post reads: “My heart is torn to pieces and my soul feels like bursting out of my chest when I imagine what my young son Jackson has to go through in his life. He has to endure abuses from his peers, calling him names that are so heartbreaking. He is fed up, and life has no meaning to him. He is barely 8-years of age, and yet the talk of suicide never gets off his mind…”
The post was quite a long one, and Dan went on to explain the harsh situation that surrounds his beloved son. He has no friends at school, and other kids keep a distance from him. Other even go an extra mile of throwing stones at him as if he is a dog while uttering some hateful words at him.
Dan concluded his post by appealing to all parents to take a bit of their time to create awareness to their children about others with special needs. He said that each one should take time to put themselves in the shoes of Jackson and imagine that situation. He has tolerated much surgery and still more to come. “…please share this. This should not happen and to anyone.” End of the post.
The post went viral as soon as Dan posted it on Facebook. Some positive responses have been received from Jackson’s colleagues at school making an effort to be his friends. It also helped Jackson to find other two kids who have a similar syndrome in the neighborhood, and they have even planned for the playtime. It is amazing how everyone took Dan’s message with positivity.
The whole post is as shown below. If you feel like sending encouragement to Dan and his son, there is an address that he has set up for Jackson. Dan never gave up on her son. We see true love in him, a good example in the society.
