A young boy from Queensland, Australia has walked hundreds of meters for help after discovering both his father and mother were dead.
Police responded to a property in Townsville and found the bodies of a 48-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman.
The reports came when a 5-year-old boy walked to a nearby suburb and managed to raise the alarm.
Police are not searching for any suspects and are reportedly treating the case as a murder-suicide, 7News reported.
“He’s attended an address and provided some information, very limited, that resulted in other people going and identifying that two people were deceased in the other house,” Detective Inspector David Miles said about the child’s actions.
“At this stage, we haven’t ruled out the involvement of another party. But all indications would appear, at this stage, it involved the two parties who were present.”
Officers have spent the day searching the property to find clues about how the tragedy occurred.
DI Miles has given his condolences to the orphaned boy and his extended family.
“Any death is a tragedy,” Miles expressed. “We have two people deceased. We have a young person without parents and obviously, he’s been subjected to an extremely tragic set of circumstances.
“Any event like this is quite disheartening and concerning for everyone who attends. For the family it affects, the tragedy is quite significant, particularly at this time of the year.”
The child is now being cared for by his extended family.
“There hasn’t been any medical examinations or autopsies at this stage,” Miles added.
