Moment 13-Year-Old Boy With Autism Is Restrained After Trying To Break A Window Midflight


A 13-year-old boy with autism had to be restrained by flight attendants after causing chaos on a domestic American Airlines flight.

The incident took place on Tuesday during a flight from Hawaii’s Maui to Los Angeles when a disruptive young boy got out of control.

According to the reports, the teenager started getting physical with his disabled mother who was not able to console him despite numerous attempts to get her son to calm down.

As CBSLA reported, witnesses have since confirmed that the 13-year-old not only got into a fight with his mom but also went on to try to land a kick at the plane window next to him.

Following the chaotic scene, American Airlines staff restrained and handcuffed the boy, whereas the flight had to be diverted to Honolulu.

While one of the flight attendants was seen attempting to use duct tape to restrain the boy in a viral video, the airline confirmed that only flex cuffs were used to subdue the out-of-control passenger.

Though it is not clear whether the flight attendant reattempted the use of duct tape after the initial failure, the viral video shows two passengers helping the staff restrain the boy.

As a result of his disruptive behavior, the 13-year-old was taken into custody after the plane landed in Honolulu, CBSN Los Angeles reported.

“Customers were reaccommodated on other flights or provided hotel accommodations. Safety and security is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this caused,” the airline confirmed in a statement following the incident.
