A four-year-old boy died and four adults were left injured after a gunman broke into a family’s home in Ohio and opened fire.
The incident occurred at around 2 am on Monday. Police are searching for the burglar who barged into the home and started shouting at the people sleeping inside.
According to KWBN27, the gunman opened fire before the family members could respond.
Struthers Police Chief Tim Roddy identified the child as 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney. He passed away in the arms of his mom, 22-year-old Alexis Scheider, who was shot in the leg.
Andre Stephon McCoy Jr, 20, and Yarnell Green Jr, 30, were in critical condition at a hospital. One of them suffered two gunshot wounds to the back while the other two wounds to the head.
Scheider’s friend, Cassandra Marsicola, 20, was also shot in the leg and in stable condition.
The gunman ran away from the scene on foot. Residents told officers they did not know the suspect.
Marsicola called 911 to report the shooting, saying all people in the house had been shot. Their neighbors reported hearing 5 to 8 gunshots but did not see the gunman.
Rowan’s heartbroken father, David Sweeney, called the gunman a ‘scumbag’ and a ‘coward.’
In a trembling voice, he said of his son: “Rowan was the sweetest boy. Rowan was the best. He is so young. He didn’t deserve any of this… buddy, I’m so sorry, for you, buddy. I love you.”
According to Chief Roddy, the shooting was not a random act of violence but a targeted attack.
Police described the suspect as a thin and was last seen wearing a black hoodie.
