The Prime Minister of the U.
K., Boris Johnson, recently became a father. His fiancée Carrie Symonds gave birth to their baby boy at a London Hospital on 29th April in the early morning.
According to the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, the baby and the mother are doing well.
The spokesperson noted that Ms. Symonds and the PM were thrilled to announce their baby boy’s birth. They added that the couple would like to thank the NHS maternity team.
Keir Starmer, the Opposition’s Leader was quick to congratulate the couple and tweeted that it was wonderful news and then congratulated the PM and his fiancée.
Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer also tweeted that it was great to know that Downing Street was getting a new resident.
Speculation had been common as to whether the PM would take to dispatch box for the first PM’s Questions against the Labour Party leader. However, it was believed that Dominic Raab, the PM’s deputy, would be taking his place.
Johnson had come back to work on Monday after being absent for more than 3 weeks as he was recovering from the coronavirus symptoms.
Johnson had spent some days in the intensive care due to the illness but came back at this week’s beginning and issued a statement regarding coronavirus situation getting better in the country.
Thirty-two-year-old Carrie became a mother for the first time while Johnson became a father for the sixth time. The baby was expected in summer but has arrived ahead of schedule.
The PM had previously said that he had intended to take 2 weeks of paternity leave after his child’s birth but it is not clear if he would do it due to the severity of the global pandemic.
Tony Blair and David Cameron (former PMs) had also taken paternity leaves when their children were born while they were in the office. If Boris decides to take the leave, Dominic Raab would take charge again.
