The body of a 25-year-old nurse has been found near her home two days after she disappeared.
According to police, the remains of Sydney Sutherland was found in Newport after a search operation using helicopter crews and K-9 units.
The young nurse was last seen jogging on State Hwy 18 between Grubbs and Newport around 3 pm Wednesday.
A 28-year-old farmer has been arrested in connection to Sutherland’s death. He is expected to be charged with homicide, Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas confirmed.
Lucas said in a press conference: “We do have a suspect in custody at this time. However I can’t release his name until he’s formally charged.”
The farmer was later identified as Quake Lewellyn, local news station KARK 4 reported.
Police had found Sutherland’s phone a quarter-mile from her home. Her Apple Watch and phone indicated that she went for a run. A UPS driver also confirmed to have seen the nurse jogging in the area.
Sutherland was last seen in a white tank top, black shorts and pink sneakers, moving belongings on the trunk of her vehicle.
“This was at 1pm on 8/19/20 at our house. She went for a walk around 230pm by her house on HWY 18. Please help us find our sassy!!” Summer Sutherland, the victim’s relative, wrote at that time.
The next day, Sutherland’s body was found and the suspect was later taken into custody.
According to online jail booking records, Lewellyn has been charged with one count of capital murder.
Video from local media showed the farmer in handcuffs while being transported to the Arkansas State Police Headquarters.
Sutherland’s body has been sent to Arkansas Crime Lab while the investigation continues.
