6-year-old Jaxon Oaks from Michigan disappeared along with his dad, 29-year-old Justin Oaks, during a fishing trip in March.
His body was found by a family member who refused to give up searching for him.
A search for the father and son was launched on March 30 after the two did not come back home from a fishing trip on the Huron River.
On April 5, the boat was found overturned in the Huron River, and Justin’s body was then discovered on April 13 at the mouth of Lake Erie.
Officials pulled Jaxon’s body from the water after a family member who refused to give up looking for the boy found him.
Photos show the proud father, who was an avid fisher and hunter, smiling with his son next to him.
Friends of the family paid tribute over Facebook. One shared: “My heart is broken for Chelsie Oaks and Jolene. I pray u have some peace in ur heart with having them back together again.
“What u are going through is unimaginable but know they are always with u, keeping u and Jo safe! Heaven gained an amazing man and one awesome little cowboy!! Continued prayers!”
Tracy Korte also set up a GoFundMe page for the family. She wrote on the page: “It is with a heavy heart I share the news that after several long weeks of active searching and unbelievable amounts of prayers and support, Jaxon was finally brought home.
“There are no words to express the amount of sorrow everyone is experiencing right now, but there is peace in knowing Justin and Jax’s memory lives on.
“On behalf of Chelsie, Jolene, the Oaks’ and McNetts’, I want to thank every single one of you for contributing in their time of need.
“Our hearts are broken, that is certain, and the pain may never truly heal.
“In a time in this world where people are struggling emotionally and financially, the outpouring of support has been incredible and we all are so blessed to have had you all to lean on.”
