Police have received overwhelming calls for help after multiple boats sank during a boat parade on Lake Travis, Texas.
According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, they are responding to ‘many boats in distress’ as people called for help all along the parade route including on Point Venture, West Beach, Paradise Cove, and Hurst Creek.
Responders were seen taking passengers to safety after their vessel became filled with water.
No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Lake Travis has been the size of many boating accidents and is known for its dangerous sailing conditions.
According to Texas Parks & Wildlife, 29 boating fatalities were reported on the 65-mile long lake in 2018.
Because of the amount of calls authorities have received, they were unable to confirm how many boats have sunk or in need of help.
“ATCEMS has not been requested to respond to any of them. If this changes, we’ll provide an update,” the Austin-Travis County EMS said in a statement.
The organizers of the parade had promoted the event on social media, inviting the president’s supporters to participate.
According to the event page on Facebook, over 5,800 people were interested and 2,500 planned to attend.
“Decorate your boats in patriotic colors and fly as many Trump flags as she can handle,” the post read.
It is not clear how many boats participated but photos show people gathering along the route to witness the parade.
According to The New York Post, up to 2,500 boats were expected to set off from Barnegat Bay. The parade was scheduled to start at 11:30 am and end at Emerald Point by 2 pm.
However, police started receiving call minutes after the parade kicked off.
