The decision to end his campaign followed shortly after Bloomberg’s poor performance on Super Tuesday.

“I’m a believer in using data to inform decisions. After yesterday’s results, the delegate math has become virtually impossible — and a viable path to the nomination no longer exists,” Bloomberg said in a statement.

“I’ve always believed that defeating Donald Trump starts with uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it. After yesterday’s vote, it is clear that candidate is my friend and a great American, Joe Biden.”

While the statement clearly confirmed Bloomberg was ready to stand behind Biden, the Democrat’s aide revealed that a detailed plan to convert Bloomberg’s campaign into a tool to assist Biden is still in the making.

Taking to Midtown Manhattan Sheraton to announce his decision and thank his supporters, Bloomberg insisted “there is no doubt in my mind we would have beat Donald Trump in November.”

However, he admitted his continued presence in the presidential race “would make it more difficult” to defeat Trump.

“A viable path to the nomination no longer existed. And I will not be our party’s nominee, but I will not walk away from the most important political fight of my life and I hope you won’t walk away either,” Bloomberg said as he urged his supporters to follow Biden.
