Bird Flu Detected In The Philippines And India That Prompted To Cull Over 12,000 Chickens, Quails, And Ducks


The country of the Philippines has identified the presence of bird flu after the tests indicated the presence of a highly infectious H5N6.

It is a subtype of the Influenza ‘A’ virus and was found on a quail farm. William Dar, who is the Agriculture Secretary, said that the bird flu was discovered in the Nueva Ecija province in Jaen Municipality.

In this particular province, about 1500 quails have died on a farm. About 12,000 quails are buried and destroyed so that the infection can be prevented.

The Agriculture Secretary also said that they currently standing on top of the situation and the surveillance will be carried out between 1km to 7km, with immediate effect.

This will help in ensuring that the disease doesn’t spread further towards the said perimeter.

This is known to be the same strain, which took place in 2017 that effected some poultry farms in the country.

However, the Philippines have also set up animal quarantine checkpoints, which will help in restricting the movement of all birds within the quarantine location.

The technical spokeswomen of avian flu, Dr. Arlene Vytiaco from the agricultural department, said that the virus can be transmitted to human beings through secretion and excretion.

But the chances of infecting humans are very low and the mortality rate is also zero. However, precaution is necessary.

The Agriculture Department and the government department investigated and contact tracing, to help them identify the source of the infection.

To ensure a steady supply of poultry, all day-old chicks, chicken meat, and hatching eggs will be allowed.

This is because, they have tested all the provided source farms for the bird flu, and the results were negative. Earlier, Mr. William Dar has also said that the single case of bird flu was only found in one quail farm.
