Bill Gates admitted he is very surprised to have become the main subject of conspiracy theories revolving around the pandemic and Covid-19 vaccines.

As the billionaire Microsoft founder suggested, he wants to get to the bottom of “really evil theories” which suggest that he is responsible for the pandemic and that he is planning to implant microchips into billions of people through vaccination.

Lashing out at conspiracy theories, Gates told Reuters he hopes the ungrounded theories against him will go away.

“Nobody would have predicted that I and Dr Fauci would be so prominent in these really evil theories … I’m very surprised by that. I hope it goes away,” he said.

“There’s millions of messages out there … But do people really believe that stuff? We’re going to have to get educated about this over the next year and understand how does it change people’s behavior and how should we have minimized this.”

Meanwhile, his wife, Melinda, opened up about the conspiracies in an interview with GMA as she called for better regulation of social media platforms to prevent the spread of disinformation.

“Disinformation causes more death. It causes people not to do the right things … It’s time to have more government regulation over the social platforms, so we don’t get these conspiracy theories that cause more death,” she said.

One of the possible reasons why Gates has become the center of various conspiracy theories revolving around the pandemic dates back to 2015 when the billionaire warned that “if anything kills over 10 million people over the next few decades, it is likely to be a highly infectious virus, rather than a war.”

As a conspiracy theories expert and a University of Miami professor Joseph Uscinski insisted, however, Gates’ wealth and popularity made him the target of conspiracy theorists.

“Conspiracy theories are about accusing powerful people of doing terrible things. The theories are basically the same, just the names change. Before Bill Gates, it was George Soros and the Koch brothers and the Rothchilds and the Rockefellers,” he told BBC.

“It should come as no surprise that rich people and big corporations are being accused of conspiring to put chips in our necks because that is a thing we fear. This has been the ammo of conspiracy theories for a long, long time.”
