In Rastafarianism, dreadlocks are a spiritual symbol, and when the likes of Bieber take on this kind of style, many argue that it is a form of cultural appropriation.

After weeks of backlash, Bieber then posted a photo of him with his wife Hailey Bieber, 24, but this time, his dreadlocks were gone.

The singer simply captioned the photo: “Happy Sunday.”

He also shared another photo of him on Instagram in a black and white close-up selfie shot sharing his new look with his fans.

“It’s really disappointing to see you with dreads,” one user wrote. “I thought you educated yourself.”

“Justin baby, what in the world,” another one commented. “No sir.”

“Didn’t you say you were educating yourself about black culture so what is this foolery?” someone added.

Justin was also accused of appropriating black culture in 2016 when he had cornrows.

Other people argue that the hairstyle can be traced to ancient civilizations across the globe and that identifying the above examples as cultural appropriation is reductive.
