President-elect Joe Biden says ‘more people may die’ if Trump refuses to coordinate on coronavirus response and start the transition process.
After meeting with labor and business leaders, Biden said to reporters in Delaware: “More people may die if we don’t coordinate.”
More than 11 million people in the US have been infected with coronavirus and more than 240,000 have died.
“We’re all agreed that we want to get the economy back on track. We need our workers to get back to the job and that means getting the virus under control,” the president-elect said.
“We’re going into a very dark winter. Things are going to get tougher before it gets easier,” Biden warned as cases are on the rise in the country.
He also called on Trump’s administration to allow his transition team to access the plan to distribute a vaccine.
“The sooner we have access to the administration’s distribution plan, the sooner this transition will smoothly move forward,” Biden said.
“More people may die if we don’t coordinate.
“How do we get over 300 million Americans vaccinated, what’s the game plan? It’s a huge, huge undertaking to get it done and prioritize those greatest in need and working our way through it. And they say they had this warp speed program that they not only dealt with getting vaccines but also how to distribute.”
Biden also said that waiting until Inauguration Day is too long given the severity of the pandemic.
“If we have to wait until January 20th to start that plan, it puts us behind a month,” he expressed.
Speaking about Trump’s refusal to concede, he said: “I find this more embarrassing for the country that debilitating for my ability to get started.”
