There are an expected amount of 2,100 migrant children who had crossed the border alone without their relatives. The families had been turned back due to a rule that had been introduced by Donald Trump, and Joe Biden has maintained it.

The rule is labeled as Title 42, which states an emergency COVID-19 measure, allowing quick deportation that skips the lengthy process. Border Patrol agents came across 2,121 migrant children who were unaccompanied.

The number of migrant children who have crossed the border has increased by 65%, but due to Title 42, it has dropped over the past month by 82% since there has been alternative housing for the children.

Homeland Security Secretary comments on the situation, saying that “we have certainly, anecdotally, learned of the fact that some families self-separate so that their children can arrive at the border. That is something that we are looking very carefully at.”

The Biden Administration is currently under fire and criticism for not being able to handle the situation, housing children in “cages,” an assumption that was also attached to the Trump administration during the time the former president had been serving.

In April, there were around 122,000 people that had been encountered by US border authorities on the border, an indicator that the month would be just like March. Based on data obtained by CNN, the numbers would increase and the administration would have to take action in order for it to become settled down.
