Ben Affleck has undergone a sobriety setback as he appeared to be in a drunken state following his attendance at a Halloween party in Los Angeles.
The 47-year-old actor, who had just recently celebrated being sober for “over a year,” was seen stumbling and nearly falling to the ground in the footage that quickly went viral.
Fortunately, Affleck, who donned a skeleton mask for the party, was able to hold onto a nearby car and stay on two feet.
Outside La Peer Hotel, the actor was seen embracing a mystery woman moments before their ride arrived and the two drove off.
“Sobriety is difficult and elusive for everyone struggling with addiction, and we’re told Ben has acknowledged he’s going to slip up from time to time. It was never as if this was simply behind him,” TMZ reported after the incident.
Only one day before the party, Ben bragged on social media about being sober for more than a year.
“I have been in recovery for over a year and part of that is helping out others,” he announced.
“The Midnight Mission is an incredible organization that helps those in need with housing, training, development and recovery. I’m making a donation today because there are people battling addiction every day that don’t have the resources and need help.”
Ben Affleck’s rehab began in August 2018 when his former wife, Jennifer Garner, busted him during a drinking session and took him to a Malibu rehab center.
After the first 40 days of rehab, the actor admitted “battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle” in an emotional post.
While he appeared to have a mishap during the recent party, it has been reported that Affleck is actively participating in “wellness classes” in an attempt to break old habits.
