If there are two rather contrasting things unexpected tragedies can tell us, its that our lives can be taken away at any time and also that one’s will to live can sometimes make miracles come true.

After a month since the great explosion in Beirut, rescue workers hope they are witnessing the latter.

A Chilean rescue team hopes that a pulse that they have picked up from the rubbles belong to a survivor of the explosion. The first indication came from the team’s rescue dog, which signaled to the team that there is something worth checking out in one particular pile.

When the team rushed to the rubbles and tried out a machine that checks for heartbeats or other signals, they got hold of something that was beating 18 to 19 times per minute – which very well may be from a human’s pulse.

While the report is currently unsubstantiated, a reporter stationed in Beirut cited a local news report that suggested the possibility of two children still breathing under the rubbles. If true, the location suggests that it may be the two flower vendors in the area.

Another reporter did confirm the heartbeat aspect of the story. Salman Andary from Sky News said that the Chilean team checked and confirmed what seemed to heartbeats multiple times over a period of 40 minutes.

Some worry that the time may be running out for the potential survivors. Although nearly 50 people are working on the site since traces of heat and heartbeat was identified on Thursday, they have yet to rescue or even see anyone from the rubble pile.

However, the team said that they now have a better idea where the potential survivor(s) may be. They added that they have not given up hope one bit, remarking how one should not be overly optimistic nor pessimistic in a scene such as this one.

The Beirut explosion of 2020 has already claimed the lives of nearly 200 people and injured 6,000. It devastated a country that was already struggling with an economic meltdown that many locals believe are from the faults of the current regime.
