An artistic beekeeper has gone viral after designing and building a large beehive made of LEGO blocks for his bee colony.
Ruairi O Leochain from Ireland had been planning to make use of his extra time during the coronavirus lockdown before deciding to bring his idea of building a beehive out of LEGOs to life.
As the teacher and wildlife activist insisted, some 30,000 bees have already taken residence in their new home despite having some initial doubts.
The beekeeper also claimed that the structural integrity of the beehive won’t be compromised by the bees’ presence whereas their propolis will only fortify the structure.

Propolis is a kind of glue that the bees get from trees, and with any gaps in a beehive, with any wind or air getting through, they will basically put their glue in between to seal it up,” the man said in an interview with Westmeath Independent.point 201 | 1
“I shared the video with some beekeeping groups online and I’ve had a lot of people messaging me asking if I have any plans because they’d like to try it as well.
“I had to tell them that I didn’t have any plans, I basically just had a beehive beside me while I was making it, so I was measuring up everything against the beehive all the time.”
While the bees initially appeared to have a hard time adjusting to their new home, Leochain explained that some 30,000 animals have made the LEGO beehive their new home.
