After getting beaten by a large gang of thugs, the father-of-three was left with life-changing injuries and permanent brain damage.

While twelve men linked to the vicious assault were later arrested and jailed, they have all already been released from prison.

Since the man, according to his family, died from injuries caused during the attack, the thugs could now potentially be charged with his killing.

“Simon has been unwell a number of times since the attack to the point where he has been admitted to hospital, but he would always fight back,” the 48-year-old’s wife, Nicole, said in an interview with ITV Anglia.

“There has been nothing over last few years. I guess his heart just gave up. We spoke to the GP this morning and we are not sure if it will go to coroners’ court, but he died because of the hypoxic brain damage.”

As the grieving widow added, she is devastated by the loss of her “gentle giant” and has already spoken to the police about the possibility of another trial.

“They didn’t just destroy Simon’s life, but they destroyed our lives as well,” Nicole added.

Previously, in February, the 48-year-old wife also opened up about their tough situation in an interview with Daily Mirror after all of the “monsters” who brutally attacked her husband were released from prison.

“It feels like a slap in the face. Every time I look at Simon, I can see the damage they caused him. They are monsters. They didn’t give any consideration to what they were doing,” she told the publication.

Demanding tougher sentences for similar cases, Simon’s family also proposed ‘Simon’s Law’, a move that would see individuals guilty of a violent public disorder affected for the rest of their lives.

“How can someone be clinically dead for seven minutes and this be a violent public disorder? The law needs to changed around these cases and a higher sentence given,” Mrs. Dobbin wrote in her petition.
