Mother Transformed Old Bathroom Simply By Painting The Tiles

Little Things

I watch a lot of home improvement shows, and outside of being outrageously rich, I don’t have many options for updating my space.

I can afford paint, but I won’t be ripping out any countertops or moving walls anytime soon.

One mom, who also didn’t have a lot of cash to spend on updating her bathroom, chose to spend some time on a low-budget DIY project with some amazing results.

Susanna is a blogger with a passion for low cost projects. Her blog, Livin’ the Life of Riley documents many of her projects.

This one is one of our favorites and you’ll never believe how she pulled it off.

Tired of her linoleum floor, Susanna wanted an update. The tiles she had in mind were too expensive. So she tried this instead.

For this project, Susanna needed a few things: black and white chalk paint, paint tape, stencils, and paint brushes.

She taped up the baseboards and got to work painting the bathroom floor with the black chalk paint. This required a few coats, so she did need to let it dry and then repaint a few times.

Once the floor was completely black, she began stenciling with the white chalk paint. Check out her design!

Susanna had to choose a stencil that worked with the rest of her décor. If you’re trying this project at home, you can purchase a ready-made stencil, or buy the tools to make your own!

She filled in the entire floor and it looks amazing! The paint creates a matte look and the stencils give the illusion of tiles. Once set, this floor will be easy to clean and maintain. And if she ever gets tired of it, she can just paint it again!

Susanna’s new floor is a huge step up from the linoleum tiles she decided to ditch. I can’t even tell that her design is not actually tiling! The finish is stunning!

While this project works best if you have two bathrooms, it’s low cost and can be easily completed with a few dollars and a few hours.

I’ll definitely be doing the project the next time my bathroom needs an update.
