Ban On Eating Dogs Lifted Over Fears That People From Far East Might Be Offended By It

The bureaucrats at the Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom have blocked the ban on eating dogs amid fears that it could offend people from the Far East.

The ban was first proposed by Environment ministers who have made the possession of cat and dog meat a criminal offense in the country.

Despite the practice being rare in the UK, Secretary Michael Gove, a Former DEFRA Secretary, ordered the ban to take legal effect after dog groups advocated that doing so would send a strong message to countries that still perceive eating dogs as normal.

Sadly, however, the ban was blocked by the Ministry of Justice who expressed that the government would be “culturally insensitive” to foreign nationals by making the move to ban dog and cat meat.

“Dogs are our companion animals. We do not eat them, and that is a very important message to send to the rest of the world,” Campaigning Tory MP Giles Watling said in an interview with The Sun after he was told by the Ministry of Justice about the reasons behind their block.

“It’s not culturally insensitive because we’re not telling them what to do – we’re just telling them what we do. We shouldn’t be worrying about that, so I was surprised that was the MoJ’s objection.”

As the Justice authorities argued, the ban would also be too difficult to enforce. They also claimed that the existing ban on dog and cat meat transportation and export should suffice.

While eating dogs have been strictly prohibited in several countries including Austria, Taiwan, and Germany, an estimated of 30 million furry friends around the world are still being killed on a yearly basis for the purpose of food.
