An eight-month-old baby was rushed to a hospital after his 3-year-old brother fatally shot him in the abdomen.
According to Houston Police Department, there were four adults in the apartment when the tragic incident happened on Friday morning.
None of the adults who saw the shooting called 911.
Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center called the police, said Assistant Chief Wendy Baimbridge.
Investigators found the gun used in the shooting inside a car that family members had used to take the child to the hospital.
“It was just one gunshot wound to the abdomen and unfortunately our little one is deceased,” Baimbridge said.
Footage from KPRC-TV shows a woman crying as she stands outside the Waterford Grove apartment complex in the 3100 block of Crestdale Drive.
Another video from KTRK-TV shows the 3-year-old boy still in his Spider Man costume sitting outside of the crime scene with another adult.
“I just want to take this moment and plead with parents and guardians all over to not allow your firearms to be accessible to anyone in the house. Lock them up. There are things that you can do to render that weapon safe,” she said.
“Please pray for this family. This is just a tragic event.”
Baimbridge said that prosecutors and investigators are still determining if any charges will be filed.
One person commented: “If you have a gun you have a safe, that’s where it goes…NO QUESTIONS. This is tragic and the adults are to blame.”
Another wrote: “Somehow I think one of the adults did it and is blaming the 3 year old. No 911 call was made. They take the gun with them to the hospital. 4 adults in the apartment and no one is supposedly noticing a 3 year old has a gun.”
A third added: “Might have been an accident but not the three year old’s.”
