Injured Baby Sea Lion Turn To Humans For Help After Getting Wounded From An Attack

Sea lions’ long whiskers and huge eyes make them look adorable, especially when you are sitting with them on a calming, pristine beach.

They can clap, sway, romp, bask, bark, and cuddle! Plus, baby sea lions are irresistible.

That is why it is heartbreaking to see a sea lion crying out for help. In this story, a wounded baby sea lion desperately asked for help and tried to climb on a boat near Laguna Beach in Orange County, California.

The baby sea lion, now named Amber, swam straight up to Hugo Zusho’s boat as if wanting to come aboard.

“Amber swam directly for our boat and came aboard without hesitation,” Zusho said. “If she bites, there is a chance of bacteria (or) disease but she was as friendly as a stray dog. She was desperate,” he added.

Looking exhausted, the injured creature made her way up the stairs, onto the deck of the vessel.  She didn’t waste any moment and continued climbing, flipper by flipper.

Zusho and his friends took Amber immediately to the Pacific Marine Mammal Centre in Laguna Beach so she could get the help she needed.

Sea lions can dive up to 600 feet to search for food. They can also stay underwater for up to 40 minutes. These marine mammals swim up to 25 miles per hour. But most people don’t notice it because they usually move 10 miles per hours unless they feel threatened.

Their average lifespan is 20 years. In captivity, they can live up to 30 years. Sea lions often experience health problems associated with humans, such as epilepsy, pneumonia, and cancers. Studies show that pups can be immune to such conditions as long as they receive milk from their mothers.
